International Economics Olympiad is an annual competition in economics organized for high school students, intended to stimulate the activities of students interested in economics, business, and finance by way of creative problem-solving. Launched in 2018, it managed to attract national teams of more than 40 countries from all continents by 2021. Prominent economists including Eric Maskin and Greg Mankiw help the international organizing team develop the competition, including economics, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship parts.
The IEO team has gathered significant experience in analyzing economics syllabi in different countries, launching new competitions, and bringing together the existing ones.
In this presentation, we will talk about the IEO community (and how to join it), the opportunities that the IEO creates for educators and students worldwide, show examples of tasks, and try to solve some of them.
Also, the cross-country data generated and collected by the IEO is still about to be analyzed, we are planning a research project on that, which might interest the researchers on economics education.
